Foundation of Ukrainian Catholic University in Poland
The Foundation of the Ukrainian Catholic University was established in September las year as a response to massive fleeing of Ukrainians to Poland after the fell-scale war broke out in February 2022. Our goal is to serve to the Ukrainians in Poland, especially in Wroclaw, to build a community of safety and mutual support, to provide Ukrainian community with high quality events. Another goal is to take part in the Polish-Ukrainian dialogue, as the neighboring countries - definitely we’ve had historical issues, but now we have a unique opportunity to build new relations which will be mutually beneficial. Sure, our level of participation is mostly academic collaboration. And the third main goal is to apply for educational grants to support the University’s activities.
About Foundation of Ukrainian Catholic University in Poland
Ukrainian Catholic University is a private university mainly functioning from fundraising. It is a rather small yet very active university which is incredibly trustworthy in Ukraine and not only. it has always been in the center of all the important events in the country. Naturally it is responding to the new challenges related to the war.
By opening its Center in Wroclaw, UCU would like to respond to some of these challenges. We are going to build its activity on the invaluable experience of UCU presence and work in Kyiv and London. UCU Center in Kyiv and UCU Ukrainian Institute in London became centers of UCU’s engagement with shaping narratives about significant Ukrainian issues and global academic collaboration. The UCU Center in Wroclaw will become another part of UCU global network enabling a more active dialogue and cooperation with Poland and Europe. It will become a home for international engagement into a discussion about new social agreement in postwar Ukraine, reconstruction of the country, moral and spiritual architecture of the new security order, vision of Ukraine’s place in Europe, role of Poland and Ukraine in defending and promoting human dignity and democracy in Eastern Europe, etc.
Ukrainian-Polish relations are as strong as never before. It is extremely important to seize the momentum by expanding and solidifying this friendship. As UCU is a trusted public voice in the society it actively involved in such discussions. Since its inception, UCU has been constantly seeking to improve Ukrainian-Polish reconciliation and is being perceived as a trustworthy and reliable institution in this regard. The UCU Center in Wroclaw will continue this tradition. It will serve the Ukrainian community to strengthen its sense of belonging to modern Ukrainian civic nation and its integration with Polish societies without assimilation.
